Last trip pushes me to larger tarp!

I need a bigger Tarp!! I was out on a peninsula on Lake Cherokee camping and a super nasty storm rolled in. I was getting rain blowing in from all over the place.

I currently use a Etowah Outfitters tarp. It's small...I have to lash it from corner to corner to get coverage for my Doublenest.

I want a larger tarp so I can set my tarp up properly...from a more rectangular orientation instead of a diamond like i'm currently using.

Do I need to get a tarp with doors in order to keep out all that rain?

I'm not familiar with the Etowah O. Tarp ... but one thing that can be done effectively is to pick up a set or even one set of Griz Beaks from 2QZQ (one of the vendors on this site).

If you can get one of Gargoyle's OGEE tarps ... you'll love that option as well. I think he'll be making them again soon.

Another option is to go large ... like the Superfly from Warbonnet Guy ... with doors ... take you from a nice side "sit out the rain" kinda tarp right into the winter.

Anyway just my thoughts ...

The superfly is what I was looking at, or the Oldman Winter from Wilderness Logics.

My pack is real light, so a larger tarp wouldn't hurt me too bad.

I love my Superfly, but bring lots of stakes.

If it is a short lived blowing storm, all you need is to be able to seal the ends of a basically rectangular configuration. And why not cocoon for an hour or less? To seal the ends, velcro mates will do nicely, plenty strong enough if the tie outs are brought in too,

for the (hopefully) short duration.

My main concern with the Superfly, or any larger tarp for that matter, is that I have to find a pretty big area to get that sucker strung out. I don't feel I'd have a super rough time doing it but it's the only thing that makes me nervous.

You can always pitch it steeper, or pitch it over small shrubs and vegitation. Just my 2 cents.
