    Sewing machine missing parts

Yesterday I picked up a singer 210 sewing machine from goodwill. In my haste I didnt see that it was missing parts - see pictures. I guess that its the foot thats missing? Its also missing the thread spool thingy at the top.

I dont know the exact name of the parts, so please excuse me.

Think this will be more trouble than it's worth?

Thanks for any help and guidance.

The spool holders are an absolute "no loss". You can replace those with anything you want, or build a DIY spool holder that's off the machine entirely. That's no big fat hairy deal.

The presserfoot is a different issue. Machine is kind of useless with out it. However, the beauty of Singers is the world is lousy with old Singer parts. I would be greatly surprised if you could not get a replacement for that. You mentioned going to a sewing machine store this weekend? Chech there and they may have some lying around the back room. Don't despair until you have looked around and on the web. Dollars to donuts some one has a foot hanging around. Price I have no idea.

I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

zirk / Ranblinrev - thanks for the info. I kind of panicked when I saw the missing presserfoot and spool holder. I'm glad the parts aren't a big deal. Yes, I will take the machine to my mother's favorite sewing machine mechanic on Monday and have him give it a look over. Hopefully he'll have the parts or know where to get them. I can't wait to get started!

    Thanks again for the help!

I feel compelled to ask; is this the straight stitch only? because the throat plate only has a single hole for the needle to go into- unlike mine, which as a slot to accomodate the zig-zag motion. just something to be aware of...

LOL- Sorry, bdbart - Ramblinrev set me straight. Though I did get depressed about the missing parts.

KerMegan - it's a straight stitch - just what I wanted for gear making. I've also learned the older machines are heavy duty and simple to use. As I'm Polish, I need all the help I can get in the simple department!

Keep in mind that there are three standard styles of singer presser feet: long shank, short or low shank, and slant shank. They are specific to the machine models and are NOT interchangable (IOW you can't use a slant shank presser foot on a short shank machine, etc.). I believe that the 201 is a short shank machine. Rev is right. There are plenty of parts out there, and they are cheap. Once you get a handle on things you may want to get a walking foot as well. The first time you sew an underquilt you will thank the sewing gods for the walking presser foot.

Pedro - Thanks for the advice. Is the walking presser foot the same as an even feed foot?

Lost Biker, I will look and see if I have your foot layin around. Also the spool holder, I can take one out of a parts machine. If I have them I will ship them to you gratis, Indiana is close (closer than New Zealand). I will work on it this weekend, and let you know, I am sure you want ti up and running ASAP. Not sure about the foot...
