Hey all, first post, great forum.
I live in Southeastern PA. There have been some tragedies lately from falling trees and branches, one recent one on Bulls island on the Delaware river where I've hung by the weir dam.
I hang in my blackbird in my backyard as often as possible. The problem I have is that the trees are huge old growth hardwoods. I recently had to spend 10K to remove some of the trees too close to the house or damaged by carpenter ants. I've personally seen two old cherry trees fall right in front of me and watched a silver maple split in half and just miss my car (while I was pulling into the garage).
There doesn't appear to be any widow makers where I hang but there are some huge oaks and ashes within 100 feet that scare me.
My question to tree lovers out there:
I now have a nice clear area that I'm thinking of planting two trees to hang from in the distant future.
If you had a choice, what species of tree would you plant to hang from and how far apart would you plant them (for a WBBB)? I know I could build a stand but there's something nice about hanging from trees. I'm thinking long term here, maybe ten years out before they are ready to hang from.
Thanks for your replies in advance,
DS
