I don't know what this is, or what it's for. I have had it for years (20 +?) and never used it. I am thinking of a complete teardown and repaint, if I can come up with a use for it. I just broke it out of storage. I want to sew with it just for the fear rush. lol. The plate says 72 W 19. It lacks a motor, and needs a tuneup.

Well, that's a head scratcher for sure! I just went through TWENTY-SEVEN PAGES of Google Images of antique Singer sewing machines and there wasn't a single picture that vaguely resembled what you have there!! Sorry I can't be more help. Keep us posted (and watch those fingers!!)

Never had a motor. It's a treadle. While it _could_ be motorized it needs a stand to keep the underneath workings clear. Most likely it has a torpedo shuttle casing for the bobbin. (Good luck finding a replacement for that.) Gorgeous beastie though. I doubt you'll find manuals on line for that one but it should be easily home adjusted for timing and such. Finding the parts to restore it is going to be the problem.
Ask and you shall receive. It'a hemstitcher. And by-gory the manual and parts are still available on line at that website. You are going to want to take good care of that. It's a collectors item. Do a nice job restoring it.. not just a slap dash paint job.

You can't beat singer.... Here's the free manual for that beastie. It's a rotatory hook bobbin case (There are two of them.) It is sweet.

Thanks Rev. I printed the manual. It's a complicated thing, and thanks about the paint. I was gonna go with a candy apple red with the singer lettering in black with a white pinstripe... Seriously, I think it would look awesome. But I guess if it's a collector peice, I will just clean it up. All the parts are there, but there never was a table that I saw. The manual shows some views, I can make a table and motorize it, shouldn't be a problem. I work on vintage cars occasionally with a guy that restores, so I can get the right paint (correct years) and everything a fella could want for machining. The underside is awesome, theres brass shafts and all sorts of turning ... things. lol.

I know it. I would have had to travel to far away towns in search of bent and rugged old ladies who KNOW sewing machines, and they would have sneered at my ignorance, but been dazzled by my charm and good looks.

On the off chance that it is worth several hundred dollars + (or a thousand) to a collector, you might want to look into that before taking a chance on lowering it's value with a well intended "cleaning".
My father collected hundreds of Singers years ago and was listed with the Smithsonian Museum.
Here is what he had to say..."I think that this is an old, heavy duty and well used, commercial manufacturing machine used in industry. It's not like any that I have encountered,but, many were made for special purposes.
I can't tell you any more."
My thought is that if he hasn't seen it, it holds potential.
Ok. Thanks gmcttr (gemcutter?...huh.) I just got it soaking in turbine oil now. I will look around before I dig in.
