    Arc Shaped no Sniviller

This is something I would really like to have. Im really to lazy to make a Arc shaped N/S clone quilt myself, so who here would like to see special piece of multifunctional gear come into being. Perhaps a small special production run for those (If numberous enough) who want one. Pan. Smee, Hint Hint *Wink* *Wink* =).

I don't think it would save enough weight to matter, 1-2 ounces max? Just use 800-900 down and momentum 90 fabric.

my idea wasn't to try to save weight, but create the trapoziod shape so that the shoulder is a good deal wider, wich is my only qualm with my N/S. I have pretty wide shoulders, and in not the lightest hiker (in body weight, but working on it =) and the current dimensions are not wide enough in the shoulders for me to effectively be used on the ground.

I know, heresy, but there are times that I cant hang, or I have to sleep in a tent. One case of this is I would like to go back to Philmont at some point in the future, but they don't allow hammocks on the ranch, so I must go to ground.

I love the versatility of the N/S, but just want it in a bit of a different shape. I guess Im just courious to see if I am in fact the only one who feels this way. Although I have the sinking feeling I must overcome my lazyness and make it my self. =)

I was writing a reply about go-to-ground capability but saw that you beat me to it before submitting. FWIW, I made my quilt 52" wide total, with 50" insulated area. It's 4" wider than my previous quilt and I think it will work well enough on the ground for me. The smaller one is not wide enough for ground use, but works very well in the hammock.

If you do overcome your laziness, you'll find that making your own down quilt is a really fun project. If not, maybe the Preacher's Wife could sew it for you? If she doesn't do down, maybe she can make the shell and send it to you unstuffed. You add the down, finish the side seam and ends, and you're done. Just a thought.

Nunatak would probably build whatever you need. I'm sure they could figure out the head hole without too many problems.

    something like this? 34x46x72 @ 12.7 oz. 35°
of course you would want it much wider, but this is a trapezoid. made it myself.

Ghost, if you are going to roll your own and don't need to go to below freezing you could just build a quilt from a Jardine kit, the directions with the kit will size it to your body.

looks great mike. nice, efficient taper.
i like it wide from hips up, going to a fairly small foot box that tapers smaller yet at the very bottom.
if the foot box tapers almost to a point (like a cone or funnel), i can just put my feet in the larger part most of the time, but if my feet are cold, i can slide them into the smaller point... almost like sliding them into a big, down mitt.
I too will something make and joy in it's making
