Loyalsock 4 day Thru-Hike

Well, Wags and I have returned from our 4 day assault on the 60 mile Loyalsock Trail in north central PA. It was 4 days 4 nights of wildlife encounters, adapting to unexpected situations, amazing natural diversity, frightening weather phenomena, questionable trail maintenance, precarious descents, grueling ascents, trail miracles, and various other twists and turns. Overall, I would say the one word that describes this trail is epic. A more detailed report, pics, and videos to come!

I can't wait! I ended up having not so great of time this weekend, it would have been awesome to have gone. Looking forward to the full report!

Four days for that trail is pretty rough. I see your feet paid the piper. My daughter and I did it last summer, taking six days. It's great hike. We also enjoy kayaking the creek in the spring.

Cant wait to see pictures, videos and a full trip report. I love to hear about the terrain, water sources, camping areas and any and all information you can share about this trail as I plan to hike it this winter in late December. I will def have my snow shoes with me for sure

The only campground we were in was at worlds end state park. There were fire rings set up at various places designated as "possible camp sites" on the guide. The terrain is rough for sure, and has some very steep ascents and descents. IMO it would be very sketchy in ice and snow, as it was very sketchy with some rain. That being said, it is definately worth the difficulties! Give me a week or so to get the vids and photos put together, and you will be able to see some of the highlights. LRR we can exchange pms when your trip gets closer and I can give you some more detailed info on tough parts and water sources and what-not. The guide is very vague in some areas.

Yeah, 4 days was pushing it for sure! We had set that time frame though, and just put our noses to the grindstone. I heard the rapids in spring can be pretty intense... when I finally get my kayak I will hire you as a guide then

the only really bad water at a "possible" campsite was the 3rd night's camp. the water was yellow and very suspect. many places i didn't carry any water at all as springs and streams were so abundant. often we hit water ever mile or 2. it was really a sweet setup from that aspect...

i think you'll be fine in december lazy. now february would be a different story.

i felt that it took longer to do a mile there than to do one on the AT. so perhaps you want to build that into your planning....

Note... the Eastern end of the trail by the "Haystacks" is now a "no fire" zone. Lots of good camping there but no campfires are allowed. It developed a real "party" atmosphere which is unfortunate because it is a stunning area. Some of the best Spring white water yaking any where around that part of the Stream. In fact they used to hold major national events there. I don't know if they still do or not.
