    Diy Uq

I think I may have a bit of work to do on the UQ.. but it worked well last night.. actually too warm.
So Here is what I did...

Took a 10 degree sleeping bag that had a broken zipper. Cut it in half (my son is making a UQ with the other half) and duct taped the edges to keep everything in to start with. Then I sewed the edges and added a strip of grosgrain ribbon to the sides. Ran shock cord through the grosgrain ribbon and tied the ends into loops.

All in all this works well. I still have some tinkering to do with the ends.. maybe another piece of cord to draw the ends closed. I need to work on the hang also, as the Hennessy Hammock has the asymmetrical hang. I made some adjustments last night moving the shock cord over the rear guy line, this kept the foot end of the under quilt in place. The should area seemed to stay put until I rolled over onto my side, then I could feel it slide under me. I am sure the fix is in the way I have the shock cord running to the suspension line.
The entire project cost me $12 for the shock cord and the grosgrain ribbon. That’s about $130 cheaper than buying a new one.
I slept in it last night until I got too hot and instead of just reaching under and pushing it aside, I went into the house and slept in my own bed. I love the hammock… but c’mom… my bed…

Good project.. think I may get into more DIY stuff.

Looks like it turned out great. You might not be able to use it for a few months, but when it cools off, I'm sure you'll be glad you took the time to put it together.

Welcome to the addiction... Let me know when you find yourself in a walmart 40 miles from home because you heard they MIGHT have fabrics!

Looks great, Definitely add some kind of draw-cord at each end, it will help. You can also either make loops or attach shock cord to mitten hooks and match those to the side-tieouts on your HH for a better fit.

Adding a draw cord or bungee at the ends will make all the difference once the weather turns cold again.

Nice job. as others have already said - draw cord on the ends will make a big difference when the temps drop low enough for you to actually want this thing under you. and again nice job on repurposing old or broken equipment.

Nice job, I'm thinking of using an old 40* bag like that before I start my plans for a KAQ copy.
