Talking Hiking Withdrawals - Hammock Set up In The Rain

Having a bit of withdrawals from hiking the AT last week. Storm came in so I figured it was the perfect opportunity to actually set up in the rain as I have never done that before. I have been lucky in that the rain has come in after I have set up.

    Practice makes permanent:

    Good video Raul.

While I've never had to setup in the rain, I got the opportunity to tear down in the rain at the Ontario Summer hang last year. Being able to pack everything up while dry under your tarp is a great benefit of hammock camping. Just for the sake of practice one could setup the tarp first, rain or no rain just to get a feel for the process.

    Cheers

One of my favorite benefits ... why I don't might setting up camp in the rain any more. Slap up the tarp and you now have that wonderful dry place to take your time to get out of your wet gear and set up your kit. No crawling into your tent dragging your wet self in only to make a soggy mess out of where you plan to sleep!

Most excellent point making video Raul! Trail withdrawal is a nasty thing!

Heh... The first time I hung my WBBB and Superfly on a camping trip, the sun was going down, the wind was howling, and the rain was coming down in sheets.

You're right. It makes a huge difference. Setting up in sunny warm Florida is VASTLY different than in the mountains of CT/New York during a multi-day storm. Gotta say, I loved every minute of it. And I too learned some valuable lessons as far as methodology. Tarp first during setup; Tarp Last during breakdown.

any issues with water running down the whoopie and into the knot on the end of your hammock? or did it all run down that string hanging?

nice video man. I unfortunately have had to setup in the rain alot where I camp mostly. but it is alot easier with a tarp ready to throw up
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Thanks for the vid. Set up too many times in the rain. Nice to have the tarp the most accessible in your pack if you expect stormy weather. Had question bout the cuben, do you have to fold it up in the stuff sack or is it flexible enough to stuff (shove) it in the stuff sack if it was wet and still raining when you had to break camp?
