Tent foot prints are usually the same size as the tent itself. Not including any vestibule area which usually does not have a floor. The foot print is a protection device for the floor so it makes no sense for it to be significantly smaller than the tent itself. Maybe and inch or two from nominal measurements, but that's SOP for fabric items anyway.

    Tyvek

Raid the local building dumpster and go for a big scrap of tyvek. I think it comes in either 9' or 10' widths so a big scrap would make a nice tarp for basically free.

Forgot to mention I found mine for $22 - not free, but not bad. If you're going to spend near $50 anyway, just save an extra $10 or $20 and buy a real hammock tarp.

I got my 8x10 at walmart for, like, 15 bucks. It's kept me dry in some not insubstantial rain, and matches my lay quite nicely.

Hah, the using-a-cheap-footprint-for-a-tarp idea crossed my mind today, and lo and behold the HF commentariat thought of it years ago. I have many siltarps of my own, but I figure something like this would work fine for a new hanger on a budget, or someone looking for a "loaner" tarp:

    http://www.amazon.com/Kelty-Yellowst.../dp/B0077O4F2Q

13.5" diagonal (114"x114") square tarp/foortprint for $13. As long as the 1800mm DWR is sufficient, it could be quite usable.

I've got the one for the Kelty Trail Dome 6 (120 X 120) It wasn't quite big enough for how I had it set up, but rain was not in the forecast.

Yeah, size and how you pitch it will make a lot of difference. There's some 135"x98" ones for $23 I saw today that might work well in a traditional pitch like that.
