    Thoughts on a Gear Hammock

I recently purchased a Hennessy Hammock Expedition A-Sym. As many have already noted, the stock rainfly is seriously lacking in size/coverage. As such I plan to upgrade my rainfly to a larger 3rd party option. Once I do this, I will have the stock HH rainfly just sitting around the house. I may be tempted to try to sell it for $20, but I thought of another potential option..

Does anyone with any experience in making a DIY gear hammock know if the material used in the stock HH rainfly would be adequate to make a gear hammock out of?

Or, if the material isn't strong enough for a gear hammock, does anyone have any suggestions for what I could make with the stock HH rainfly once I get a new rainfly?

you could... but i would sell the tarp.. you could get $30 shipped for it
it would be cheaper to order some fabric from BWDD it's $5.50 for Silnylon 2nds if i remember by the yard all you really need is a yard for a gear hammock/pack cover and some shock cord would cost you under $15 with the shipping ... and you would have $15 left for other cool gear
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

Thanks GLP! I'll certainly heed your advice and try to get $30 for it. If I'm lucky, it'll sell and I'll find myself with a little cash to start a new DIY project

One, thread had a kelly chair that also was a pack cover and a gear hammock. Any one seen a "how to make" thread on it or know how?

    Jerry chair, Ish.
Its a simple rectangle of fabric, cut to your specs.
Shape it like a chair, narrow at the head, tapering wider towards the hips and butt. This shape will limit its multi-function ability.

    INSTRUCTIONS HERE.
    Original Jerry chair thead

For a pack-cover/chair/gear hammock/top cover...whatever, just a simple rectangle works best IMO. And a pocket or strap loops for your pad and a pocket for your poles. Fabric choice is yours to decide, depending on expected usages.
