    Hammock & gear storage

with accumulating some gear like i some of us do, what do you do with it when youre not using it?

I know a good many of you have multiple hammocks, tarps and warm things, as well as stoves and other kitchen stuff, not to mention suspension stuff. Packs and hiking specific clothing also.

I was thinking of getting some kind of plastic tote thing, the ones with multiple drawers to use for that for things like hammocks and tarps(big drawers) and kitchen stuff in the smaller ones. maybe some wall hooks for the pack, hang the sleeping bag in the closet, and i guess figure the rest out as i can.

what do you guys do? i have a room that cats share that im using as a work room for motorcycle and paintball stuff too, so its not a huge deal, but since everything else here is specialised i figure some of you had to get creative.

I don't get that creative. I rent a weird late 1800's house so there are all these built in shelves in the walls in random places. In my room there is a closet built in to the wall with tons of shelves. I put all my gear on those shelves.

On a side note - what kind of paintball gun do you have? I used to play all the time, had a Bob Long Defiant with a Halo hopper and the works. Man I miss playing. Got in to a car accident and had to sell it for the money for repairs. Still got my Tippman SL68 II Pump though haha, that thing was always chrono'd so high. Shot like 350fps+ no matter how I adjusted it lol.

With cats, I would suggest bigger plastic bins for your gear. Need to keep them smelling nice! I use my basement and a spare closet. Down gear hangs in the closet, everything else in the basement. Before I had a basement, I had less gear, stored in a spare bedroom.

I am not one who needs everything in its own box. I keep the most commonly used things in the same bin, then the alternatives in another. Some things hang from the joists.

My goose down is spread throughout the house, hung out in empty bedrooms or in my closet.

Therm-A-Rest pads are loosely rolled on the top shelf of my closet.

All of my "hardware" - hammocks, tarps, backpacks, cooking gear, etc. (and tents) - are in a hall closet that I commandeered as my gear closet. Hammocks, tarps, and strap/stake kits hang on the inside side of the door from a couple of cheap tie racks I got at home depot. Backpacks hang empty from the clothes bar running across the closet. Trekking poles and my Cradle Lounger and other stools hang from nails driven into a side wall of the closet. Stoves, pots, etc., and all other gear is stored in totes.

I need to clean out the closet. So much gear I could get rid of... but I spent so much time accumulating it... I need help... please...

I have large tote bins with lids for bigger gear and smaller ones for smaller gear. They all get stored in my work room on shelves. Some of them end up staying open and spread out due to the fiddling I do.

does anyone have bags already made? i know some guys locally (not hammockers, but im working on it) that have like, 5 bags with different load outs and all are ready to go (one guy has food and even clothes already packed, and a specific shelter leaning under the wall with the packs). ive thought about bundling certain things in certain bins or even try to get some smaller packs and divy it up some.

I think you have to build a shed out back and start to spend most of your non-hanging time out there!!

I paid beaucoup bucks for a locked storage room in my building just so I'd have ample storage space out of the way for my gear. Since I spend so much free time tinkering and fiddling with all of my gear, it has all ended up in a mountainous pile here in my condo living room. Hammock gear, fishing gear, firearms, miles of cordage, you name it...all right here under my nose while a half dozen large Rubbermaid bins sit empty down in the basement. I tell company that I am just preparing for the inevitable zombie apocalypse. Most of them just realize that I'm a 40 yr old slob that still loves to play with his toys.

And no, the irony of my sig is not lost on me.
