Great looking tarp, well done. I've got a hex tarp of similar dimentions that is polyurethane coated polyester or nylon or something. I used it for one week in the mountains and it stayed strong against some of the heaviest rain I've seen. It was too narrow, however, and I had to snug my hammock tight against the tarp RL to stay dry on the sides.

Have you used 5 x 10 before? I am thinking of 7 x 10 which seems so small.

wwk, the size was really a product of how much fabric I could get and getting more experience on making tarps (it was $9 total, how can you pass that up?).
I know Risk used a 5x10' tarp on many of his trips, and from the times I've hung it up I'm confident it would be sufficient for most weather conditions. If you expect to have a lot of long-term rain or wind, a bigger size could definitely be more comfortable.
