    Replacing bed with hammock

    Hello fellow hangers...

I need you help with an problem that I have, I'm moving.. Leaving my concrete built apartment for an older version. The new apartment is in a house built in the 1920's and not in concrete. The walls are brick, and some might be made with old techniques as framing, straw and mortar.

If the walls don't hold my weight in a hammock I guess I need a hammock stand, I want some ideas on what to do... Please help me.

Here's a few links to get you started, if you want to diy. These really only scratch the surface, as there are unlimited ways to go with a stand.

yupp.. I think I posted prematurely, I found loads of hints in the forum...

I will check the threads you linked to as well. I think that I will fashion a stand in to of the corners in the room by 4x4 studs from floor to ceiling.

BaloO, I've been fulltime in a hammock for 2 weeks now. Some of the best sleep in my 60 years.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

Olddog, that sounds great... I have been having sleepingproblems for about 1 year now, waking up all the time, sleeping to little and being dead tired at work.

Hopefully I will find "nirvana" in my hammock at home.

Been full time now for about a year... Same issues with lack of sleep.. It has helped dramatically..
We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..

I think I'm on something here, I made a crude sketch with skecthup... never used it before so I hope you understand what I'm trying to display for you.

    The studs are 4x4"
the two standing studs are shaped to hold the top vertical stud/beam up. That beam is there to secure the standing studs from falling. They cant fall sideways since they are in a corner so they are stuck there. IF I would lay down in a hammock hung in this construction I'm pretty sure it collapse since there is nothing securing the standing studs in the bottom end so they would be pulled towards the middle by the weight. But If I secure them down by the floor to the wall I'm confident it would work.

What do you guys think? success or failure?'

One of the guys on here did that same thing for his daughter over her bed. It looked like it worked perfectly. I think maybe an angle brace in each of the upper corners and your set.

What about hanging from the top beam, so the compressive force is along that,
and the corner studs support the weights in a downward direction?

With the ceiling height that might be a slight problem. I think the ceiling height is at about 9 feet (old house)
