BaloO, I've spent the last hour trying to link to a free standing stand I modified a couple of weeks ago. One of these days I'll figure 'linking' out but it was ' another stand'. I've spent the last 2 weeks in it with no problems other than the length which could be shortened by about 2 feet.

Go to the thread you are trying to link and copy the url from the top of your browser. Then go to this(or another) thread and paste it in your post.

Personally, I would be leery of trusting wood in an old home. Look for free-standing options that you can move around if you need to.

I used the technique of using your door frame from one of the links on the first page, but instead of just the carabiner, I got 2 pieces of 1x4 walnut board, and smoothed the edges, put my straps and loop around them, then put behind the door and closed. They held all 265lbs of me getting in slowly, and all 220lbs of mother plopping down in it. My theory is that with the board, it spreads the force alone the entire door frame, the hinge, and the door itself. I will sleep in it tonight, my first night inside in a hammock, and tell about it tomorrow. Until then, here is a picture to tide you all over. The towels are to keep my straps from getting knicked by the sharp edges of the hinges.

My sleeping disorder was cured by buying new madrases to the bed, bought a new specialized pillow aswell.

But whenever I lay down in a hammock I feel like getting rid of the bed. The misses was with me on a daytrip and tried my hammock, she was immediately sold on the concept of sleeping in a hammock, while I was cooking some food for her and I in the forest she fell asleep in the hammock.

I didn't realize that stands could be so varied. Woah! Goodluck with the move and the hammock, BaloO.
