Has anyone succesfully used a short whoopie sling as a tree strap extender? I was about to make one because I like the idea of having an adjustable length extender. If so, which end attached to the tree strap and which end went towards the hammock?
Actually, I guess the fixed eye would have to attach to the tree strap via a larkshead since a larkshead would screw up the adjustable loop. Right?
Yep I did for a while. Then I switched to reversing my woopies so I did not even need extenders any more. What I mean by this is that the dead eye of the woopie was attached to the tree strap and the adjustable end was attached to the hammock. Some dont like putting any part of the woopie around the tree but I have not found my woopie to fray yet after a year of doing this.
But before I did I did make two short woopies, larks headed the dead eye to the tree strap and had an adjustable tree strap. Using 4 ft tree straps with 4 ft woopie adjusters. I really enjoyed this set up cause I never had to tie knots. I prefer the reversed woopie as opposed to the tree strap extenders cause I find it easier.
Both ways work well its a total matter of preference.

LRR - how do you attach the adjustable end to the hammock? I can't picture this, I see it slipping off unless you use something else on the hammock....Originally Posted by lazy river road
My pack leash is made of the same stuff a Whoopie is, It has a fixed loop at each end that does good for extending my tree huggers. I have never actually used it, but I did test once on a tree too big around & once on two trees "too far apart" & it worked well in the tests. So double duty item
I just loop the pack leash around the strap & to the Dutch clip. All the adjustment is done with the strap, so a short Whoopie would do just fine.

But any ways, I larks headed the dead eye end of the woopie to the tree strap. And use the dutch biner to attach the adjustable end of the hammock to the hammock. This may require some form of modification on your hammock depending on your current set up.

The way I use mine is more like the second way in that video. The only addition is the use of Dutch clips on the tree straps. Works great and I love the fact that the biners act like drip lines.
If I understand the jargon of riggers in the arborist industry on listservs, whoopie slings and loopies are employed there as straps, not as the variable length lines we use them for.
This came up with a fast search complete with illustration.
I'm packing a couple of extra Spectra loops. In truth, packing an extra self-made whoopie instead of one or all of them would make sense. Just a few extra grams.
