One detail to add, is the importance of cord locks. I put a pair at either end, under the top cap. Rreevestmmk uses them to adjust tension in the shock cords, but in this design they act to keep the pivot points for the cords under the top cap. I used some cheapos from REI, but am on the lookout for some good strong double hole ones. Unfortunately I seem to only be able to find them in lots of 1000 or with exorbitant shipping.

It's not a 2-holer, but the ones Outdoor Products uses have a slot shape works great with 2 cords side by side.

Sounds like that would work too. Any idea where they can be puchased by the piece or pair, and without paying crazy shipping? Call me crazy, but I just can't bring myself to pay $14 for shipping on $0.80 worth of cord locks!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. When some of the legends of hammock DIY take the time to weigh in on a rookie post, it is very encouraging! This is such a great community, glad to be able to contribute, and if I'm lucky, see someone take this and run with it in a new direction!

I bought a sleeping bag from Wiggy a few months ago, and it has cord locks on it that are a quantum leap beyond anything else I've seen. The springs on them are much stiffer than those found on other cord locks. Dunno where to buy them, though.

Thanks for the tip! I'll shoot them a note and see what they say...they may sell them as replacement parts, worth a shot.
