We don't need a planned group hang to go hiking. I hike and hang year round.
Just bring some jumper cables so I can tap a bit of your energy
not to sure I could keep up with you on the trail.

I actually may take you up on that. I try and do two big trips a year and one of them next year is the Linville Gorge and I was considering either Oregon or Colorado for the other. But after seeing everyone's photos. Colorodo may be where I'm headed next summer.

Has anyone suggested The Barr trail? It is a tough hike but the view from the top of Pikes Peak is awesome. It's the only trail I have done a bit of. Don't know if I'll have a hammock by then but if I can I'll be there again!

    woulda' coulda'

sounds and looks great! work schedule would not allow, but i was able to get two days of hanging in the crestone nf campground on the hip of the sangre de cristos about the same time, with an awesome hike up to north crestone lake at 12,000 ft.

i'm thinking us new mexicans, mr. taozengi, will just have to stage a new mexico hang one of these days....IF it ever rains and the trees don't all burn!

alas, the monsoon is ephemeral at best here in the central highlands

    shocking news!

    Taozengi,

that's wonderful news, though I must express my scepticism. I heard sandia ranger district by abq is re-opening a few spots. i guess somebody's getting rain, just not around here.

i'd love to take you up on a camp out down there. my schedule is i work sunday-thursdays. maybe in august, eh?

any good trails we could do a couple nites on?

    nos vemos!

Just an update on the "It doesn't rain in Colorado" situation. On the news this morning they reported that Breckenridge received 3.7 inches of rain in two hours yesterday.
It broke the 24 hour rainfall record set in 1893!

Probably doesn't sound like much for those in the REALLY rainy areas of the country, but for us here in the mountains, it is a deluge!!

I just thought your "inquiring minds" would like to know. I'm glad we didn't get witness it close up and personal. Cheers to all of you.

My father was up in Summit County all weekend and came back Monday night. He said he had never seen a thunderstorm like he saw on the way home in the mountains and he's owned a vacation condo up there since about 1995. He was born and raised in Salina, KS, so he knows very well what a thunderstorm looks like. He said this was as bad as any he had seen in Kansas, minus the tornadoes.

Another FYI, did you know donkeys HATE hail?

    Ya'll are killin' me!
Now I've got to do Colorado!
Those are all just incredible trip reports and pictures. I love how you ID the participants too. It's good to put a face with the names.

    Looked like a great time.
