@jimed43 - my setup is a Kelty 12 and an ENO DN. Things you will need: tree straps, minimum of six stakes for the Kelty (1 for each corner and 2 for the short poles you use on one side to make a sitting area), 2 short poles, some kind of cord for a ridgeline for the Kelty (if you use a ridge line), some kind of UQ or pad for warmth, extra cordage (just cause). It's also nice to bring something to put on the ground under your hammock. Makes getting in and out in stocking/bare feet more comfy (I just snagged a nice picnic blanket on sale from Gander MT for that use).

Water levels are almost guaranteed to be low. Not sure if there has been a fish kill this year or not, but its definitely possible. When there isn't fishing is decent to good

Can someone tell me, if I need any small items like tent stakes? paracord? etc etc
Go by academy or BPS and get yourself one of those emergency space blankets. I know we'll be bringing a lot extra, so you should have enough folks around that know what they're doing you should be ok, but a space blanket is a key component to staying warm that you don't think about. I'll bring some spare stakes and we always have the mason twine, just you're likely to get a cold butt without some insulation underneath you. Bring a space blanket and a sleeping bag or whatever you've got and I'm certain we can figure it out.

Sunday morning I'll probably make potato egg chorizo and cheese breakfast tacos and coffee, so we're well fueled for a day of fun, you're welcome to pull up a seat.

Ok, I checked they did have another fish kill this year, but not as bad as last years. They are also going to stop stocking the lake due to repeated fish kills.

When Texans say "you'll need stakes" do they mean re-bar, that you install with a two pound hammer?

I use aluminum gutter nails... what's the ground like?

Thing1 and I are getting psyched for this trip!

Rocky. Steel gutter spikes are a better choice, although the Al may work.

sand with a few rocks. Its not the hard baked clay that you have up here in the metromess, but you're not on barely covered limestone either. Sharpened aluminum / metal goes in fine.

    It's Countdown Time!!!

Great questions folks are asking and answering! Keep em coming!

In just a few days there will be dozens of hammocks infesting the trees of Texas and I for one am really looking forward to it!

The weather forecast is looking great, of course what we say in Texas is if you don't like the weather, wait a bit and it will change. For right now though it looks like it will be mostly clear with highs in the low 70's and lows in that great sleeping 40/50 range.

The folks there are looking forward to us coming and very hammock friendly. This is in no small part due to great past experiences with us. We've respected their rules over the past several years and plan to do so again this year. There are plenty of links to park rules in preceding posts so if you haven't checked them out please take a moment to do so.

Remember that everyone is on their own for food with two exceptions. Our tradition is Saturday Morning breakfast tacos on me and a community pot luck dinner Saturday Evening. (don't forget your stone soup contribution)

There will be supplies and instructions for reflectix cozy making; splicing instruction for those who bring their own line or are taking delivery of the group buy amsteel, (there may be a little line left for those who may want some); and a gear swap so bring things you'd like to trade, cash or plans to do PayPal from the woods.

We'll also have give away items for a Saturday night drawing. (Everyone there will get one chance at the drawing and those who donate items for give away will get an additional chance.)

Of course there will be plenty of "show and tell", "gear talk", and time for relaxation whether on a trail, fishing from the bank, or napping in a hammock.

Yep, I'm counting down the days!
