Hope you can make it. It is a great time to test gear and plenty of helpful people willing to answer questions or lend a hand should you need it.

Looking forward to seeing you buddy! We're praying for rain down here and without a fair amount soon, it will be propane stoves only and no fires of any kind other than containerized fuel. That will make our dutch oven escapades a bit more challenging but I'm up to it if you are.

I really wanted to make this my first group hang. My son is having tubes put in his ears on the 7th so I will be staying home with him.
Everyone have fun and be safe...
Sounds like your priorities are rights.

I'm not sure where you are but if within a fair drive you're welcome to make a day trip on Saturday for a sample.

Is there a place to pre-paid? Do I need to call the state park and reserve a spot? Or just show up on the 11th?

Well, I had every intention on making this one, but I'm stuck in East Tennessee on a work assignment, been here 6 months and was expecting to be back home by now. Maybe we can get together a winter or early spring hang. Y'all have fun!

What? I can't bake a cake. Or make cornbread. Or cinnamon rolls. Guess I'll just boil water and have some freeze dried then.....

Wait...should I bring water or is there any left in Texas?

I have a site reserved with just myself and my dog, Max. You're welcome to stay with me and that goes for anyone else that doesn't already have a site reserved or need a one night stop. I'll be coming down on Thursday to get the weekend started early.

If the weather stays as planned so far, it looks like rain on Thur. & Fri. Maybe the burn ban will be lifted for the weekend in our honor.

I just got an e-mail from the folks at Fairfield Lake State Park in response to one I had sent. Here's the bulk of it:

We are excited that your group will be coming back for a fall campout this year. The history of the Hammock Campers is very interesting. It is so neat how much it has grown over the years. Though the fishing is slow, and as of this time we are still under a burn ban, we will do all that we can to make your camping trip an enjoyable one.

I will talk with the rangers about the branches in the sites and get that taken care of. I will have the sites that you requested blocked off so everyone can stay together. From the number of people coming it looks like y'all will have the whole loop. If you don’t mind we will probably come down and take some pictures.

We are looking forward to seeing y'all in a few weeks. If we get the much needed rain, I will let you know if they lift the burn ban. If there is any way that you could get a rough estimate of how many sites that your group will have that will help me in blocking off the sites.

Please let me know if you need anything. Feel free to call or email.

    Happy Camping!

It's gonna be fun! Keep praying for rain.
