    first real hammock trip

I have my first real trip coming up when I will be trying to use the hammock.

I have a NX250. I will be taking a either a 30 degree bag or 50 degree bag with me as well.

The trip is Mid August, in northern minnesota/canada. The predicted lows are 58 degrees.

Will that be sufficiently warm? or do I need to get a zliner/underquilt/colder bag?

Welcome aboard from Florida. Oh to see 58 degrees again, I'm trying to walk for some exercise and it's almost 80 degrees at 7:30 am.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

+1, I went out and at 62 degrees I was comfortable with my 50 degree bag but my back was cold and there isn't much else you can do for it other than a UQ..

    Good luck

As (perhaps) tinalouise has commented: The difference at around 60 degrees between being in a bare-bottom Tropical or similar from Clark and being in an NX (250 here) is remarkable. (Well, not really. After all, come winter time, some people remark on how effective a total wrap of 1-2 oz loose fabric is.)

The pouches on the NX do keep you from feeling heat loss and general body chill through the bottom.

Comparison: Same site, same temps, same bare breezes, successive nights last week with near record lows for the date. That said, an UQ with a Tropical @ 58 degrees does create a chamber for deep sleep. At least IF, as is my case, you are sleeping without a blanket.

And I'll, put in a plug, for the Wally World's standard all polyester pillow experiment. Buy 6 @ $2.50 and remove, oh, half the stuffing. (Or recycle 3 old pillows and buy just 3 pillows, using the old pillow cases for half the Walmart stuffing.

Four of them fit the head-end pouches of the NX250 perfectly, the last 2 will be a little small.

IMHO, You'll be fine without a UQ. Mid August here is normally warm, today it was 98! Buy a 20$ fleece liner, or just use your 50 degree bag to lay on. Still nervous? Bring a set of UnderArmour. I bet a beer you won't need em. I own a NX 150 and I live in MN! Enjoy the big swamp. http://www.youtube.com/user/Fishpig65?feature=mhee The pockets work, Use them. Happy Hangin !!
