Congrats Shug! Have a great trip!
Absolutely fabulous but unsurprising. HOWEVER, To those whom much is given much is required. It is required of you to do some outrageous hilarious things Shug. Things that will be legend in the annals of BP mag. Come on, you even have time to plan it. Freak 'em out, laugh 'em out. Challenge them to some tough guy events Shug. Make a spectacle of yourself. Whoooo buddy!!!!! What an opportunity for an entertainer!!!
"To turn from this increasingly artificial and strangely alien world is to escape from unreality. To return to the timeless world of the mountains, the sea, the forest and the stars is to return to sanity and truth." --Robert Burnham Jr.
Bigtime congrats on the win. The video makes me feel the need to hang, SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey, still willing to bite the bullet and pony up those gloves in exchange for the trip. Said I would and I'm a man of my word. Hope to see you again on the trail soon.

Holy Cow! I missed this entire thread Shug! WOW! Congratulations!
Now, in addition to weather, altitude is going to be your most major challenge. It will really help if there was some way possible for you to acclimate at some high elevation for a few days to a week before showing up at the guide hut at ~ 5000 ft or so, on your way to 14,000.
The weather- other than wind maybe trying to blow you away- should be no challenge for you. The altitude and steep ice climbing will. It will be maybe your greatest lifetime adventure, or at least a tie for things like minus 26 in a hammock.
Years ago- June 88 - I climbed Rainer's neighbor to the north, Mt. Baker. A good bit lower in altitude, but still thousands of feet of steep ice and glaciers with ice 300 ft deep/thick. That was certainly one of my greatest adventures, along with going back in Dec ( with a new snow depth of 114") for a back country climb and ski from Austin Pass area(pass between Baker and Shuksan), digging and sleeping in snow caves. All very unforgettable! When you get on top of Raineer, you might can see Baker.
For many years, Raineer(weather station at Paradise ~5000 ft) held the world record for snowfall in one year at ~ 1100", until Baker set a new record by a small amount a few years ago.
Any way, WhooBuddy! Maybe you could become the 1st man in history to hammock hang on a high Alpine peak?
When are you scheduled to go, Shug?
I cannot WAIT to see the trip report video for THIS!
Congratulations Shug. Looking forward to your trip report and shwag review.
Have not been able to find a date that fits my work schedule.....
At this point I am 50/50 going.
To be honest...I would soon romp the forest than do a glacier trip that may require training and time constraints.
Just happy to have beaten the young folk in the contest.
Backpacker has been pretty slack in any follow ups.
