    accurately measuring a hammock

Hey all, this may seem silly but humor me ok. So how do you measure you hammock? I'm considering buying a papasmurf hammock and he gives you the option of choosing your dimensions. All I can do is compare what I have to what I want. So to compare I have to measure ..... So how do I get an accurate measurement ? Should I just Lay out out flat? Should I undo the whipped ends ? I'm just not sure, I think unwhipping it would be best but I really don't want to break down.

The only measurement that matters is from suspension to suspension.

Sounds like you're speaking ex cathedra. FWIW, this parishioner agrees.

I didn't mean for it to come across like that.

I know. I just wanted an excuse to use that title for my post. The OP said, "Humor me ...."

Now that I think of it, PapaSmurf may have meant people to specify length and width. Any thoughts? I usually use the full width of whatever fabric I have, but I'm not a gram weenie.

You won't wind up with a better sleeping experience from the measurement than you would get a spiritual benefit from spending time in or building a church from Old Gringo's experience. Unless you sleep better, after someone begins a reassurance with. "Rest assured, jons4real........"

Tell Papasmurf your size, and what you like and don't like about hammocks you are familiar with. If you have no strong preference, let him make a copy of a hammock that has been successful from plans he already drawn up. Let the customization be to unstressed features.

I'm offering that advice from the custom bicycle-fitting world, where few people who ride an off-the floor bike know whether it is anywhere near the right construction and set-up for their bodies. They only know that they have or have not adapted to it. That doesn't stop builders from asking the size bike the rider / client currently rides.

"Buyer beware", "the perils of being your own advocate", etc.

    YMMV and all smilies implied.
