Looks good to me. The only thing I added to that picture is a couple of velcro cable ties, one on each end. I wrap them around until they form a sliding "collar" on the whoopie. After I put the whoopie on the knot, not the toggle, I slide the collar up to the bottom of the toggle. The tension of the whoopies keeps the collar tight and the collar keeps the whoopies from coming off the knot.

I really like that simple idea. That adjustable loop end of the whoopie can be a pretty large loop so it make me feel better having it held closed. I'll add that to my gear!

I don't know why I don't use a trail stick. They are always available and you don't have to carry them. I still take carabiners. Gonna have to rethink that.

Mine do that sometimes as well. They usually stay if I straighten them once. It's never been a problem but it bugs me.

I like this idea to, thanks!

    No, no, no!

The angled toggle is not good. Tightening the msh will help straighten it, but some dark, rainy night you'll forget to do so, the wind will blow, your hammock will sway a bit, and you will fall. Use some kind of slider on the whoopie sling that you can push up to the toggle. Search for "Solomon bar" or Griz's whipping instructions in part 3 or 4 of his GrizBridge video series. Both work well and aren't difficult to tie.

Oops. The video showing Griz's whipping instructions are here.

That's exactly how I do it. I just went on my first hammock camp and this worked great for me. Just remember, as Shug says, over the knot, not the toggle. Do this and you will be fine.

Your knot is just fine. Good Job! I don't always carry toggles because it's just something else to loose. I find a stick or just get creative and use something I already have like a stake or a bike tool. I've seen someone use a couple of Sharpie ink pens once! They worked! The challenge of making do is part of the fun for me.
