What to do with wet, muddy clothes?

What do you do with wet, muddy hiking clothes, when the rain is still pouring down at bedtime and you're going to get up in the rain in the morning? I don't want to take them into the hammock with me, even in a waterproof stuff sack, and possibly get everything wet. I suppose I could hang them on the underside of the tarp, but they might drip into the hammock and wet my quilts.

Solutions?

Assuming you tarp gives you enough coverage, hang them off of the suspension lines for the hammock.

Sorry, should have included my set-up in the initial message. I'm using a JRB 8x8 / JRB WS2 (yeah, I got one!

), with a HH ULBA, so there isn't a lot of room left over between the end of the hammock and the coverage provided by the tarp. That's my problem.

run a clothes line directly under the hammock? With bottom entry you have to hang a bit high to get in. Might be enough air gap to pull it off.

Might want to consider hanging them in the rain. Then they'll only be wet in the morning, not wet and muddy. Hopefully.

I've thought about a larger tarp, but it's not in the budget right now; maybe later.

I'll have to try the clothes line UNDER the hammock. Probably put it off to the side a bit to clear the hammock, maybe like a gear hammock hung off to the side. Or just hang the wet stuff over the gear hammock/pack cover. That might work!

I like the idea of the "natural" washing machine. All I'd have to do is swing the clothes around to take some of the water out of them in the morning and I'm ready to get into just damp (and probably cold) clothes!

I got a small 2nd tarp that I put at the foot end of my HH. I can lengthen the distance from the foot of the HH to the tree - the long length of the rectangular tarp is goes down the rope line.

i use something like the orange tarp line from speer hammocks.

i also found that you can create a smaller hanging space by creating a triangle from the top of the trekking pole to both sides of the tree w/ the same type line.
having the bottom of the trekking pole stuck into the ground a little closer to the tree than the bottom, the water bag or whatever you have hanging from the top will pull the lines at the top away from the tree & taught.
