Grip Clip Slip

Anybody have any helpful hints for grip clips slipping? They do a GREAT job as long as it's dry, but when you combine rain with a moderate wind I can literally watch them crawl down the sil.

Usually only happens when I have to stake them as opposed to tying to a tree or limb on a level plane (no problems then). Just wondering if anybody has any thoughts, my brain is on 'dim' mode right now.

Could you add a small piece of fabric, like the stuff you put under rugs to keep them from slipping, when attaching the Grip Clip?

switch to using a pebble wrap? That is a pebble under the sil and wrapping the line around the pebble from the top of the sil then staking out the line.

I had used them on a tarp tent that I had made years ago. They work great if you tie them off at 90 degrees to the sil (no side pull). They would walk with any side tension at all. The sil is just too slippery.

If you marked the spots you wanted to apply the grip clips too and brushed a thin mix of silicone adhesive with mineral spirits to that area, it wouldn't be as slippery and might hold better.

That's a great idea. The thinned silicone that I use for seam sealer is kinda sticky once it's dried. I bet it would not only help with slipping Grip Clips but it would also help with any wear that the Grip Clip may cause in that area.

What about applying silicone to the Grip Clip button itself. I'd think that would work.

I would take the tackiness off by dusting that area with powder so it didn't want to stick permanently to the Grip Clip. Having an adhesive that wasn't 'deactivated' held against something for a while with pressure is a little worrisome. I agree with you that I think the thinned silicone strengthens the area it is applied to, it certainly adds some weight.
