    A Couple's first hang

My wife, Creek-it (pronuonced cricket)and I have been hiking and camping together for years. We had always carried and slept in tents. Well this past year I met Dutch and when he told me of the world of Hammocks I was hooked (Dutch Hooked) . It took some time and work but I finally aquired enough Dutch gear to have two complete setups. When I got the second hammock I hung it out back of our home and she laid in it for the first time. She feel alseep that afternoon and said she slept great. It became Creek-it's from then on.

The next weekend we took all our new gear to Micheaux State forest for a 8 mile hike and set-up at an established camping area between the Quarry Gap and Birch Run Shelters. She wanted trees in a "V" so we could sleep next to each other. It took some creativity but with Dutch Clips and Dutch Biners plus some Dutch made whoopie slings and webing I made it work. I hung the two traps over each other with the help of some Tarp Flyz and Dutch Hooks (those things are so amzingly easy to use, and so light ).

We always take our min-pin, Titus with us. He will even trail run with me, if I don't go over 5-8 miles. Of course he had to sit on my sleeping pad and blanket. He slept with Creek-it, her bug-net zips on and keeps him secure at night.

Interesting post. I just had a discussion with my wife about hanging. I'm not so sure she would be comfortable hanging away from me, so I purchased a Lightheart Duo tent for when she tags along.
I am just now setting up a Hammock system and asked what she thought of sleeping alone, several feet away.
Your setup, looks like it mite just get her to hang.

Dont let my wife see the smokehouse tarp or she will want me to carry one of those on my back. She was very hesitant about sleeping under a tarp. Kinda a city girl. Good idea for a car trip though. Fonzie looks very comfortable.

It is a funny story on how she got her name. I started calling her cricket when we hiked just to give her a trail name and that fit because she was always just chirping along. It was very nice. Well she had a bad first year or so and it seemed like everytime we came to a creek or stream she would end up getting wet. On our first trip to Old Loggers Path we got got a late start and ended up not getting to our first night's camp until after dark. (man wish I had hammocks that night, felt like hours to get the tent set up). Well just before we got there she not only stepped in the stream but went straight down into it. Everything got wet including me who tried to catch her on the way down. At least I broke her fall. The following winter we were up hiking along the AT at the Delaware Water Gap and she slid off a rock at a stream crossing and continued sliding down stream until I jump in and pulled her out (Thought she was going to go right into the river and float on down to Philly). It was kind of scary and we got very cold. We were lucky to be only two miles or so from the car. After that I changed the spelling of her trail name. Since then she has not tumbled into any water and very rarely even gets her feet wet.
