Labor Day hike PA AT 501 shelter to Carsonville

Russ and I decided to take the 4 day Labor Day holiday and go on the AT in Pennsylvania. We will start at the 501 shelter to Carsonville. Hope there are some nice places to hang and not so many of those **** pointy rocks Pennsylvania is infamous for. Will take lots of pictures of course. Maybe we may see some of you out there!!

If you were heading north I like to tag along for a couple of days. I still have the section from Eckville shelter to Delaware Water Gap to finish this year. If memory serves me right that section (all together) isn’t so bad as far as rocks go. I think the worst of the rocks started north of Swatara Gap for a couple of miles, and it got rocky again about 2 miles before the beautiful views just south of 501.
    Peace,

I'm heading to the beach or I'd be there. That section is not that rocky. There is an abandoned coal mine and othe neat things. It is easy hiking.

I figured out you were heading SOBO; It is just wishful thinking to find someone to help me get to Delaware Water Gap before the end of October. No worries though, stranger in a strange land and all that Enjoy your walk; there are plenty of places to hang in that section. I agree with Dutch, compared to how bad the rocks can be in Pa. I didn’t think the trail was all that bad. I hope to meet up with you and the rest of HF at the fall hang at Gathland SP. I still have lots of questions about suspensions, TQ’s, and a lot of other stuff
    Peace,

Can some of my hanging buddies tell me the trail conditions (if you know) of the AT in PA? The Adirondacks are CLOSED! Vermont is in shambles!!! My home town is a wreck and I need a get away now more than ever. Please, need some information cause my gear is all on the floor. Thanks in advance guys!

I didn't hike through there, but I do live close and it won't be too bad. I'm sure there is some blow downs from looking around here. However everything will be easy to get around. You should be good to go and with nice weather this week there shouldn't be any mud.

My trip is slated to begin on Friday morning. Would love to meet you G.L.P.!! In fact, my husband asked me to ask you if you might be gracious enough to perhaps help us put a car at Rt 325 by carsonville rd and take us to the 501 shelter. Russ is trying to not place 2 cars at trailheads, but if we have to, so be it.

We are so happy to be able to take this section of our hike inspite of Irene. High school starts for me on Tuesday and this trip will put me in a good mood for when my students come in.
