As promised - couple of pics for you guys

I had said I was going up to the mountains for the weekend and was going to take my new hammock with me. I know this may be more a trip report than a general talk post, but I mainly wanted to show a pic of me & my hammock in the wild.

This is a view of the valley we were hiking through:

Gorgeous scenery. That pic is about 3 miles in from the trailhead somewhere between 10k and 11k feet.

Hammock time! Trying out my first pair of trees:

They were a bit far apart and while I obvious have more than enough length between straps and whoopie slings, it didn't give me the angle I prefer in the gargantuan Grant Trunk Double.

So I went with these trees:

That worked much better and as a finale, here's the view:

The only thing that ruined it were the **** mosquitoes! Already longing for a bug net.

Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

My wife and I were talking about how lucky we are as we were driving back to town yesterday afternoon. It's easy to take for granted that about an hour's drive from our house is an area people travel from all over to experience. Thinking about that helps us appreciate it all the more.

I've got a crazy backpack trip in mind to solo the same area as those pics, but do a full 2 days of hiking to include a little known 13k foot peak that has no defined trails so I should be alone up there. 20 miles if I only do the peak, 24ish if I do the peak plus Abyss Lake. We'll see what I'm up for in a 2 day trip.

    Smile Sweeeet...

Beautiful mountains---and you get to look at them while hammock-hanging from beautiful trees!

Love the views. The campsite looks very pleasant.

Thanks for the post and great pics; glad you're out there hanging Hairball!

Mighty fine looking whoopie slings, too!

I think the matter of simplicity goes further than just food, equipment, and unnecessary gadgets; it goes into the matter of thoughts and objectives as well. When in the wilds, we must not carry our problems with us or the joy is lost.” -Sigurd Olson
