If you find that the detached net isn't for you, then you can always try a zippered one. Not so easy the other way around.

I'm about to make another one. This time out of some fine tulle I picked up at Walmart. Not sure it will keep noseeums out though. Am also considering reinforcing the short edges with grosgrain and using a button as the closure this time.

Tulle probably won't stop the noseeums, but soaking it in permethrin might slow them down a bit...

Great idea. Does it keep the bugs out without the velcro?

What if it were modified to allow one side to "tuck" into the other? Sew a open channel along one whole side to allow one side to tuck into the other (eliminating the velcro).

I haven't had any bug problems yet but I also haven't been out on a trip where the mosquitos were thick in the air.

There's no velcro in this design, other than the option of a few inches on each side of the ridge line to make it easier to put the bug net on and off. The small stones you put in the corner pockets pull the bug net down. You're hammock pushes out against the weighted net creating a "seal" where they touch. Nice thing is you can get in and out w/o having to adjust anything.
