    Amsteel to webbing question?

    1) Can webbing be attached directly to a continous loop of amsteel? (idk if the friction/abrasion is a bad idea) 2) Versus sewing a loop onto the end of some webbing; could it be attached to a ring via knot? In my early stages of modding my old GT, I actually duplicated the knotted rope suspension using webbing... it held but was just wondering. Thanks in advance DIY Gurus

I use amsteel to webbing all the time and it works well. Still have to watch the webbing but it is one of the better connections.

i have amsteel chainlinks on the end of my gt ul.

i run webbing through them and back up towards the tree-- making adjustments via jrb tri glides. i love this system.

That is literally what i was thinking, saves me over an ounce if i leave the ring out. Could you describe or show further what you mean by run it back towards the tree... I figured attach and use triglides on other end. Also, would water run down onto the hammock without a ring as a "drip strip"? I am assuming not because you guys wouldn't use it then, but i have gone wrong with assumptions to many times.

the bottom webbing is attached at tree, runs down to the hammock, through the triglide, up through the amsteel loop, then back towards the tree, secured on the 2nd pass through the triglide.

cool thing is you can have the triglide anywhere along the webbing you desire... pending webbing lengths and hang distance

Nice! Do you have to use a longer piece of webbing then?

Here's the method I've settled on; the details are near the bottom of this post.

I've posted this time and time again, but it's such a pure method for using webbing.

At 2:00 of this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KE7dx...e_gdata_player is the method. You can leave the ring out and just go right through your amsteel chainlink with the webbing and throw that "double slippery half hitch" behind it. You don't lose any adjustability and you lose the weight of the ring buckles or any descended rings.

If you take your webbing through the sewn eye (or water knot tied eye in the webbing) at the tree you can leave the biners and triglides at home too.

It's the lightest webbing setup out there as far as I can tell and you have all the same adjustability as the ring buckles or triglides without the weight.
