    Toxaway River on Lake Jocassee

Planning to do an over-nighter Aug 6-7th. Will be going in at Gorges State Park just west of Cashiers NC and hiking down the Canebrake Trail. It's only 5.5 miles down to the campsite and intersection with the Foothills Trail. The campsites are in the mouth of a cove and on the Toxaway Creek. About 100 yds to the west is the Toxaway River and a 220' suspension bridge. Duke Energy brought picnic tables in by boat. There are numerous sites with tables, plenty of trees to hang from, the creek, lake and river to swim in. This is the nicest campsite, in my opinion anyway, on the foothills trail. Got a handful coming from my backpacking group but any of you guys are welcome to join.

Thanks Pips! I did this hike back in January in the snow and also used this campsite while hiking the FHT. It really is a nice campsite. Hopefully you can join us on some future trips.

Giving this a bump and correcting a mistake. Gorges State Park is just west of Rosman, NC.

WOW. That is a gorgeous place for a camp out. I took some nice photos (easy to do with such a pretty setting) Last Wednesday morning as we hiked through there. I told my wife later that we should kayak up there and camp out. The place is sweet.

The last photo below is from "your" campsite side of the cove, the east side of Toxaway River, looking across the cove to the Cane Brake Access area. The others are from the east side.

Kayaking up there would be a great trip! It's still hot as hades down here, hope you have recovered from your hike.

Finally, yes. I was pretty much recovered as of the second or third day, but today (the 6th day) was the first one I'd say I was 100%. Today, I'd go back!
