Maybe you need to come down to Texas, I thought it was right nice last night. By dawn it had dropped a good 25 degrees and was a nice 75, happens every night. Its Shug I don't understand. Whoo Buddy with snow everywhere and everything froze hard as a brick. You have to use a quilt under your hammock. Now that's bad.

Y'all must have had a cold front go through down there. Only got down to 78 degrees around here!

But then again, with your humidity, you probably had us beat on the heat index.

If it's too hot to camp in a hammock, it's too hot to camp, period.

That said, I use an old battery-powered iFan (no longer made).

Has anyone tried the Coolmax Adaptor Sleeping Bag Liner by Sea To Summit?

According to the description: Put a layer of protection between you and the sheets used at hostels and hotels with this lightweight synthetic sleeping sheet When the weather is warm, this soft, moisture-managing sheet allows you to sleep without getting sweaty or clammy Pack it away in the included siliconized nylon stuff sack.

I like the idea, just not the price...at $40, they need to kiss you first.

Wonder can you buy the CoolMax fabric?

Exactly! That's why I haven't tried one yet. It's probably just wicking poly anyway.

I concur. I've hammocked in the 100+ Texas heat and find sleeping at night a lot easier when sleeping nude. I pick my hanging location such that the tarp hides me from other campers. I keep a pair of emergency, easy to pull on shorts at hand just in case some rude person comes by anyway. The hammock comes up around me and the only way anyone can see the state of my (un)dress is to walk right up. When getting out I rotate in the hammock and sit in it like a chair to put my shorts on. The hammock still covers my assets more than sufficiently.

A little zen practice also helps with remaining comfortable and getting a good night's sleep. Many hot nights I have slept in the cool mountains in my mind. I used to sleep in the snow in my mind but I kept waking up cold

    Kidding, of course.

Here is my solution for the heat and you can't do it in a tent or on the ground. Hang above the river/stream/creek. Seriously. Find a narrow part of the river and then start looking for trees on opposite banks that are close enough to tie onto. Generally speaking, it isn't difficult at all to find appropriate trees. The cool air coming off a body of moving water is a wonderful thing during those brutal hot evenings. The sound of the moving water lulls you right to sleep and you'll not wake-up hot. I used this method as much as possible when I was hiking on the East Coast during the hot months. Saved my sanity more than once.
One need not hang directly over a stream. Hang in the trees at the stream's edge, and you will find you get the same cooling effect. I even notice it on the road when riding my m/c. Passing over a fast moving stream brings a nice blast of cold air.

    Cheers,

    Kai
