    Lets talk Whoopie Slings

Ahh , the piece of hammock gear with a naughty name I see is quite popular.
When I purchase a hammock , either Hennessy or WB , what length should I get ; what's the standard length and is it based on hammock specs ?
What exactly do they do ?

Thanks for any advice and forgive me for I'm a newbie.

I have a Hennessy Ultralite Backpacker...I made two 6'whoopie slings and use a marlin spike on my tree straps> I have hung from trees that were 22'+ with adjustment to spare. Whoopie slings makes adjusting the hammock much easier than tying and untying knots to get the proper adjustment. Hope that helps.

If you get a WB, try the webbing first. I changed out the webbing for Whoopies and then back again. Whoopies are lighter, and a bit easier to adjust, but the webbing allows you to hang in tighter spaces and it's no problem to hang from trees with huge trunks. Overall, I find the WB webbing a lot more flexible.

I was considering switching out my webbing for Whoopies also, to try saving a little weight, but like you, thinking I'd just switch back again. My experience so far, from hanging with people that use whoopies, is that you have more options with trees, distances apart, with webbing.

You'll find those that like webbing.

You'll find those that like whoopies.

I had webbing, went to whoopies, back to webbing.

    No muss no fuss.

Whoopies save a little weight and bulk. Webbing is a little easier and more versatile in that you can have a shorter "shortest hang"

As for me, I would recommend webbing to a person starting out.

Quite a bit of fiddle factor out of the box for whoopies IMHO.

    YMMV

6 foot whoopies work for most situations if you do end up going that route.

If you do end up going webbing and then decide to test out whoopies in the future, you already have treestraps. If you go whoopies first and then want to test out webbing, you need a full webbing setup.

For my SUL hammock set-up dynaglide whoopieslings were the clear cut choice.

However when I come home from my thru and decide on a JRB Bridge or a WBBB I'm thinking I'll go cinch buckle!
