Looks good. It feels good to have next to nothing in money in a homemade setup that works better for you than anything you could buy.

I'm thinking about switching to just an overcover and not a full sock. It would probibly shave 5 or 6 oz. I think as long as the tarp blocks the wind from hitting the hammock, something overtop of you to tarp in the heat is all you need.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

Here is a rough drawing of how its made. This cover allows me to use a sleeping bag modified to have the hammock inside it without the bag drooping to the ground. One side of the top cover is sewn to the bottom cover and the other side has a zipper to allow top entry. There are pics of the various stages of how its made and the finsihed products in my gallery.

The shape of the bottom part of the cover I made by having my son in law lay in a hammock and then pinned it together until I got the curve and size. Hit it lucky, got it right the first time. I now use that shape for a pattern to cut all the new ones I make.

One final note for this design is that I don't make my hammocks or hammock cover with pull outs that give an asymetrical shape. I measure approx 52 inches from the head end of the top cover and add a pullout on either side at that measurement. I have found that by laying on the diagonal the hammock creates its own asymetrical shape. This allows me to utilize the cut out pieces sewn together for the solid top cover.

Great looking set up. I would be proud to own one like it. I really like the way you did the cover/sock and the way they match. Do you have a bugnet made the same way? How is the hammock with cover to get in and out of and keep the velcro tight to the hammock once you get in? I may be emulating your ideas into one of my hammocks soon. Mule

I have so fallen out of love with velcro that I don't use it for anything anymore. The cover is not attached to the hammock itself, but rather attaches to the suspenson lines. What I am using is a sleeping bag that the hammock is inside of and the sleeping bag is both the top and bottom quilt. There is approx a 3 inch gap between the bottom of the hammock and the cover with me in the hammock. This is neccessary so as to not compress the insulation on the bottom side of the sleeping bag.

With the entry zipper for the hammock cover in the open position I just sit on the hammock, swing legs in and lay down. Very easy to get in and out of.

    Green,
I'm so jealous! This is a really awesome setup. I don't mean to start a riot here, but full instructions would be awesome (just a thought, ). Anyhow, great job on the setup! I would much rather have something innovative like this than most commerical setups. Thanks for sharing.
    God Bless,
    Kyle
