So I hear my three year old son playing with a nerf-type gun in the other room, and then, out of nowhere, the gut-wrenching wail of a broken heart (which 92% of the time means a broken toy). Sure enough, he presents the gun to me, and I see that the pull string for the pump has snapped. This is good news--fixable. I locate the string and start to retie when it occurs to me that this calls for a braided mason's line mod with two locked brummels: a tiny loop at the pump, and a nice pull-loop at the end.
Fast forward five minutes later: the boy is not thrilled with hot pink, but loves the new pull-loop, and is off to terrorize his sisters. The Missus looks on with a mixture of admiration, awe, and disgust (in reality, probably a 10%/10%/80% concentration, but still...).
So... splice geek, or hero to the masses? Yeah, splice geek .
(But a splice geek that is saving the world one toy at a time!)
