skeeter beeter? . . . not from below

    hiya peeps
just got sb pro my first hammock over 20$ its a nice hammock and i sleep well in it but if you have skin on nylon contact the little vamps can and do drink your blood. this is usually not a problem in NE cuz your in a bag but i plan on going to s.e.asia where it is usually to hot for a bag and the skeeters dont just bite they inoculate with life threatening diseases. i dont want to treat with chems and i cant afford a d.l. switchback. i thought i might sew a silk sheet onto the underside of the hammock. do you think this would do the trick?
are there other materials i could use? any advice in doing this or other recommended fixes greatly appreciated.

If you sew another layer of anything so that it encloses the hammock bottom but hangs loose when you are in it, you are good to go. I went to 200d cordura, just didn't want to sew another net on the bottom. I have seen some ridge line mounted nets on this site that look perfect.
An emergency of my own making...is still an emergency.

Paisan64, I was in one of the local WM yesterday and in their new fabric section found a very light weight fabric. Not sure what it is, labeled 'assorted fabric'. 5yds for $5.00. Might make a nice vamp barrier.

I turned my SBPro into a dbl layer. I had my original SBPro's netting rip so I took that one sewed it to my new one to make it into the dbl layer. Sobya could probably get some extra material and do the same with yours.
Another idea is to use a pad or an UQ.

What about a full-length netting "underquilt"?

Id get or make a 2QZQ breathable under quilt protector. They you can remove it when not needed.

Why limit your options? Life threating diseases versus whatever concern over chemicals - do the math.

And if your going somewhere the mosquitos are bad, you need to be taking anti malarial drugs as well.

    thanx good replys
yes its easy math permethrin is better than malaria and chemicals are your friend in proper doses.
thnx olddog i will look for that in wm, silk is not cheap
chris, how did that turn out? did you leave a slit to insert a pad? they dont bite you through 2 layers of nylon? mabey 2 layers of any material is enough and it dont need to be silk.
its kind of a involved mod but the sb pro seems a pretty solid hammock so would last and be worth it.
