welcome to the madness and congrats on the hike.
It's hardly a problem, but I wanted to hike a certain number of miles every day so getting up late 2 hours later than planned wasn't the best thing for me.

Congratulations and welcome aboard from Florida. Sorry to hear you had to go to ground just to get the miles in.

Haha, thanks. I actually went shelter-less for a good bit just so I could save weight and therefore had to rely on the lean-tos for shelter—I had the best night's sleep I've ever had the night I got by hammock back! I hope to never stay in a shelter again (unless it's pouring)!

yes Raisins you come with a lot of real world knowledge in the art of hanging and i bet you will contribute to our cause-getting more to evolve toward the clouds.
Also loved the solid report of the WB BB, cant find a more telling endorsement for that great hammock. Did you look at others? Why did you choose the Blackbird?
What did you use over and under for insulation? Tarp?
And since I'm getting closer in my 40 year plan, how did you hang in the Whites? or did you.....
    Thanks and welcome to HF

My AT thru was the first long-distance backpacking trip I've been on (and my second backpacking trip ever!) and so I was really clueless about gear before the trip. To 'educate' myself, I lurked pretty hard on Whiteblaze and that eventually led me here, where it seemed that everyone had a Blackbird and did nothing but sing it's praises. And so I followed suit and got one; I really didn't consider any other options, to be honest, but I couldn't be happier with my BB so it all worked out! I had the Warbonnet 3-Season Black Mamba for the entire trip, had the Warbonnet 3-Season Yeti for the beginning until the Smokies (after which I just used a ccf pad; this obviously wasn't as comfortable as an underquilt but I wanted the flexibility of being able to go to ground), and I had the Superfly. I didn't hang in the Whites; as a matter of fact I didn't even stop at any camp/tentsites so I couldn't even tell you if there were any good spots to hang there Sorry!
