if it's a summer then i'd get the regular, b/c hey, it's summer.
if 3 season or winter i'd get the long. you may end up wanting to stash stuff down there to keep it from freezing (water, boots, etc).

There are 2 ways to look at this IMHO.
1 - If you have the extra length, you have some extra insulation and room to wiggle and get comfy and don't have to compress the down by pulling it tight to get to up around you etc.
2 - If you have extra dead air space at the bottom of the footbox, it is less efficient as it requires energy to heat up that pocket of air and you end up with a similar situation to cold butt syndrome when there is a pocket of air between your hammock and underquilt.
Now, I'm 6'2". I have the long. It's great for me.
In the end, your best bet will be to get a hold of the HG folks. They'll steer you in the best direction.
I am 5' 10". I have a regular length summer and 3 season burrow and a long burrow for winter use. During winter I like the xtra length to pull over my head cause my face and head seem to get the coldest (besides my feet). I put my feet all the way down into the foot box and if I don't need my head covered I just fold over the top baffle.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.
Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I decided to go with a winter in long
I'm 6'3" and use a regular summer burrow 900 fill for 3 season use. I don't like a long quilt because it goes over my head. If I need extra insulation around my neck and head, I bring along my down jacket. Longs are just annoying to me, that's all.
