    Which thread injector?

Ok guys, I want to start experimenting. I want to be able to make my own hammocks, webbing straps, tarps, etc etc. I have a few people at my disposal that are excellent seamstresses and are more than willing to teach me. That being said, I need a thread injector. There are TOO MANY to choose from!! Someone just give me a model that will do everything I want so I can just go buy the darned thing LOL....THANKS!!

You are asking the question of the wrong people Don't get me wrong... we have some extremely knowledgeable folks here. But your best resource for this are your few excellent seamstresses who are willing to teach you. Tell them, or show them what you want to do. Then ask them to go shopping with you but NOT to the big box stores. Ask them to take you to the sewing centers they use and look for used machines. You will get a much better deal than buying new and they can help you out with selection.

Alternatively, and no one will believe I am saying this, check the craigslist and other sources of private listings but DON"T buy anything without having your instructors check it out carefully. You are in the position of having good people to help in that direction. Most folks don't. Even better... you Mom or Grandmother (aunt, sister, girlfriend's mother.. you get the drift) most likely has a machine in the closet you might be able to glom for free.

You can also show them my "guidelines" post in my sig. Other folks have found it helpful in assessing machines. Trust me when I say, while brand is important to a degree the single most important factor in successfull stitching is the operator of the machine.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I have a good resource you might be able to use. My mom used to be a professional seamstress and dress maker, as well as doing alterations from home. PM in you would like more details.

Check out Woot today, http://www.woot.com/ Singer Perfect Finish LCD Sewing Machine & Serger $349.99. I don't exactly know what a Serger is, but you could embroider your name or initials with this gizmo.
Personally, I use to used the antique Singers (you know the ones with the hamster wheel), until it finally gave up the ghost...bought a new Brother el cheapo from Wally World, and have been miserable ever since. My wife doesn't think it is because of the machine though.

    Janome Sewist 500

I have a Janome Sewist 500 and LOVE IT!!!!!! Very easy to use and works great this the DIY stuff. Also, if you buy it from a sewing machine place like I did, they will show you how to use it and sew.

just go to craigslist. get a mid 70'2 kenmore or late 50's singer. One cost 25 the other free to me. all metal construction. the singer has a gear drive and not a belt. all manuals, parts, extra feet are on the web. manuals are free if you look, especially kenmore.
bring it home clean thoroughly, relube including grease and it will outlast you.

+1 to everything Ramblinrev said, if you can have an experienced seamstress go with you and check out the machines, don't know you could do any better than that

they are a very precise machines and if you aren't knowledgeable about them you could end up buying something that you think is great only to find out it's a dog, this is coming from experience as the first sewing machine i bought was junk, but looked great and supposedly had no problems

take someone along that knows, imo

Just noticed this thread was still getting responses. If you look at some of my other threads you will see I got a sewing machine and have already begun making things.
