Smile VIDEO: Gear Talk - DIY Gear Hammock & Camp Chair

Finally shot some video to talk about and show in detail my DIY Gear Hammock/Camp Chair/Pack Cover/Signaling device. I had provided some information in an earlier post, but wanted to put it out there in a video.

Awesome bit of gear there. It was nice to be able to see it in action. Thanks.

Thanks! It has worked out well for me and sure makes my camp life better. Really works great as a gear hammock as well as I kind of have this OCD-organization thing. Always like to have things organized and accessible. . .

Can be quite the disease some times. . .

    Thanks for watching!

Can't wait to see your finished product and I will work on some more vids! Hope that you like them!

    Thanks for the vid.
Salamander won a gear hammock at the Hoosier Hang this spring and it was wrapped in a big bungee (the person who gave it away used the bungee to pack it).
But salamander used the big bungee to suspend his new gear hammock above the hammock ridgeline. (bungee on one side and a whoopie on the the other)

When he needed something, he'd reach up, pull down the gear hammock, grab whatever he needed, and then boing, the gear hammock would bounce back up out of the way.

I've built a few like yours and they can be handy.

I like the bungee idea - maybe I'll give it a try in the winter when I don't have my bug net on.

I guess I just have to make sure that it doesn't come loose from the tree and snap me when I pull it!

Thanks a lot! I found so many good ideas on this forum and on YouTube and just tried to put together the pieces that would work best for me. I've been really happy with the outcome.

Hi, great design, think I'll try to make one this weekend! Got a detail question, though: How did you do the corners with the bungee cord? Couldn't quite catch it from the videos. Looks like you just have the shock cord running through the long side channels, if I'm following correctly. Did you sew the long side channels first and then the wider end channels? Seems to me that would mean the shock cord would need to double back then. Did you cut holes for the shock cord to emerge below the end channel fold, or leave a gap in the stitching, or some other solution?
