Aluminum carabiners in susp.

I made these up to connect my tree straps to the hammock. One end will go in the hammock body and be whipped over. Double layer 1" nylon with a hollow polypro braid anti-friction sheath. Anyone ever snapped an aluminum 'biner? They are 10" long, so I am not too worried about nylon stretch, just wondering about the biners. I have some U.K. made 1500# locking biners, but they seem like overkill.

If they say Not For Climbing, I wouldn't trust my butt to them. Even 12" off the ground.

Those generally have a weight limit of 150 pounds (if your lucky) assigned to them. Unless your a very tiny person, or only 3 years old, they will break on you.

I use biners rated for climbing. I wouldn't trust anything else. Zoomed in on your picture and could make out "Not For" and I assume the 3rd word is 'climbing'.

The static forces pulling on your suspension can be much more than your weight depending on how tight you set up not to mention dynamic forces of movement getting in and out or moving around in the hammock. As others have said, stick to climbing rated biners with high breaking strength webbing.

+1 They are telling you right on the material that you should not use those biners for any weight bearing. Use on your tarp, or maybe to hold your pack up on a tree, but not for your own support. Throw down $15.00 for a pair of climbing rated biners and sleep with ease!

For what they cost climbing carabiners are worth it and safty should Always come first

I've bent aluminum biners on my tarp suspension. don't hang from them.
