If it was mine, I would expect him to replace the Hammock, especially if you had of warned him before hand. People should account for there stupidity, why should you be the one that pays for it?
I say you fix it by making him buy you a new hammock. That being said. I'd just patch it with rip stop and seal it maybe with some seal net so it doesn't frey. If you're not confident in fixing it maybe try selling it cheap to someone who is then he won't have to pay you as much to buy a new one.
it looks like it's mostly on the netting. at least in that picture. i'd just patch it with ripstop and silnet as theuprising suggested. bummer man, but i know stuff happens sometimes.
I wouldn't patch it. The netting is flexible enough to fill this space. Get a needle and black polyester thread and sew it up. It'll leave a wrinkle, but it shouldn't be a big deal.

If you aren't able to sell it to your stogie-smoking friend, I'd get a small piece of netting a little bigger than the hole and sew (thread inject) it in place. Then I would seam seal around the perimeter.

Send it back to Brandon for repair and have your cigar sucking buddy pay for repair + shipping.
+1 toall the posts saying have actions be accounted for
not saying hes a bad friend.....until he doesnt acount for his actions.
if it was reversed (not saying you would ever blaspheme and burn a hammock) but what would he expect you to do? that simple. reverse the shoes and usually it becomes fair
some times the most important lessons are the expensive ones.
that being said, im sorry for your hammock.
