    Question Thoughts on GT Treeslings?

Hi all, REI has these for $8.83:

I think most folks are using whoopies, etc., but for the price, I was wondering if they were worth considering (even if just for spares or backups).

Note that although the tree straps aren't pictured, I called GT and they said that they don't sell the slings without the straps.

    Thanks for your comments.

They're OK for the price, I suppose. They're bulky, stretch pretty badly, are kind of a pain to put up (they lark's head onto themselves) and they are only adjustable in roughly eight inch increments. So basically the only good thing about them is they hold up a hammock... But if that's all you need out of them then why not?

My first hammock was a grand trunk. I would stay away from those. Get some tree huggers instead.

Agreed with the previous posts. They work generally the same as slap straps, but are knoted rope; I used them when they were what I had, but got rid of them for Atlas straps, then tree straps and whoopies pretty quickly once I realized how unwieldy they really are...
the only way to fine tune the adjustment is to move the knots... not always easy.
