    Basic Strap Suspension

Will this work on each end?

    10' polyester webbing
    http://www.strapworks.com/Metal_Slides_p/ms-f.htm

    This was my idea.

    1. Figure 8 loop one end to create a sling
    2. Wrap figure 8 loop around tree, loop through the Fig 8
    3. Run other end of strap through my hammock loop (ENO Doublenest, no caribiner)

    4. Use the Strap slide to lock it in place and allow adjustment

Try it. I am guessing the strap will be slick enough to slip. But you could tie a quick knot after the slide lock, something that you could just pull undone in case the weight put a lot of load on it. Need a pretty small tree, too.
An emergency of my own making...is still an emergency.

its a form of cinch buckle suspension. I guess if youll be running it through the channel youll save weight rather than through that mason line that they use. only down side is that it will be really hard to pack up in that little sack so maybe the mason line should be kept on and you run the line through that. secure the line with a knot and get a couple more feet of webbing on each side just to make sure. worst case scenario you have to cut some webbing off because there is to much.

How about a standard strap around the tree, Elephant Trunk on the end and hook the ENO into hook on E.T.
I have not personally done this yet, but it is my future suspension.
    Good luck,

I was going to keep the line on the hammock as the attachment point, only ditch the biners. My goal was to be able to loop the plain end through the attachment point and then back through the metal slider. this would allow me to adjust my suspension from the hammock end. For safety sake, I can put slippery half hitch in the webbing to make sure it doesn't go back through the slider.

This set up seems more reliable than the nylon webbing I just got that was simply tied using a siberian hitch. Lots of stretching, pain to adjust.

I would not trust the hardware!

Strapworks is a great company and I have dealt with them in the past, but the figure-8 slides are not designed for life safety applications. Compared to the tri-glides sold by Jacks R Better, the SW items are wimpy.

SW webbing is just fine though. IMO you might need as much as 15 feet of webbing on each end to accomodate large trees (I have needed 15 in some of my hangs).

I agree with jsaults on the JRB Tri-glides over the strapworks strap you are suggesting. I have used the JRB system on previous hammocks and it is bomb-proof. It is simple to use, not necessarily the fastest suspension system to use but still simple to use. Take the loop sewn in the the JRB webbing and feed it through the ENO end channel, pull the free end of the strap back through the loop and cinch it down. This will allow the strap to stay with the hammock. Feed the tri-glide onto the webbing according to the instructions, go around the tree and feed the webbing back through the tri-glide according to the instructions and you are set. No back up knot required, trust a big fella, they will not slip!!!!!!!!!

Or you can reverse those two, slip the free end through the channel and hook it up with the Tri-glide and put a dutch clip or biner in the loop end, around the tree and back to itself.
Look up before you hook up!!

I use JRB triglides on one of my hammocks and they are robust. No worries of them breaking. As the others said I would not use the strap works ones. They look a little thin.
