Then again, many ground sleepers just use a TQ with their pad as any portion of a sleeping bag under you is compressed and not adding much insulation anyway..
Ditto. Either of those Pods will be excessively roomy on the ground, though they will certainly get the job done, either quilt or bag style. But probably more than you actually need, though it should get that "all in one hammock/ground" solution you are looking for. Though, I guess not 2 separate that combine into one, just all in one. So maybe not what you are looking for.

I sleep on the ground occasionally on trips when trees are scarce.

When I sleep on the ground, i move around a lot due to discomfort and really apreciate a sleeping bag-a quilt would have me waking even more with a cold back.

I use my bag( montbell down hugger, 650g) in the hammock as a top quilt.

I'm sure that what you are describing could be done adequately with lengths of velcro sewn to the quilts (rough side on the UQ!) to join them , and to reduce the internal volume as a UQ+TQ would be too wide.

Whether the velcro would make a strong enough union between the quilts is questionable, but I think it would.

FWIW, I quite like your idea too

In your situation, a normal under quilt with a sleeping bag used as a top quilt might prove to be beneficial.

You could use a Pod. A lot of people use WM Sleeping bags as pods, I'm going to try the Feathered Friends Rock Wren as a pod next season.

    yeah rook. and op.

bigfoot2 uses his exped dreamwalker as a pod. its the same weight
as the ff wren, but offers a few more features.

he was 'cold' at 34 degrees in his setup.. i think its listed as good to 25??
he's had great success apparently right down to 40 degrees.

but, it did create the pod around the hammock for him.. and he's a big dude.

One other option could be to get snaps added to the TQ and UQ and have them mate up for a sleeping bag like deal?? Added clothing could act as a draft stopper??

I safety pin two pieces of elastic to my TQ when I sleep on a pad. Stick your feet in the bottom, put the top over your head. The elastic makes sure the quilt stays tucked in place, works quite well!!

why not get a sleepingbag and a UQ... use the SB as a TQ when hammock camping.. and when your camping in the tent BAM just zipper it up and your set...
your going to buy a TQ and UQ why not just get a SB and UQ

or get a JRB wide quilt... i had to sleep on the ground once a few years back camping with some family members and i used my JRB Hudson river no problem on the ground...
i rather a TQ even on the ground i hate being zippered i like to move around alot... and a TQ is easy to vent when your hot ...
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

    Thanks guys.

I think the suggestions of using an under quilt plus a standard sleeping bag makes the most sense.

I will unzip and use the sleeping bag as a quilt over me with the UQ under the hammock.

    Thanks guys!

Why not just get an underquilt or pad system for the hammock and use a sleeping bag unzipped for a TQ? BTDT multiple times.
