DIY eno doublenest

The biggest new ENO's are 9 1/2 feet in width. Two widths of ripstop.

My plan is to make a simple whipped end hammock, but attach 28 widths to each side just like they do in the doublenest hammocks, resulting in a very very wide hammock for two people.

What seam would you guys use to attach the two 28 inch widths to each side of the ripstop?

I find with my Double that the pieces on the sides are next to useless. If I were you I'd just start with the widest piece of cloth available to you. You can find some 72" wide ripstop out there.

I'm still a thread injection newbie and I tend to over build for the sake of safety. Given those disclaimers, I would go with a flat felled seam which will give you excellent strength. They also look pretty good when done properly.

I actually have the material to do just the same as you're planning. I have a Bliss Double which is essentially the same as the ENO. It's not made of ripstop though so I wanted to make my own. I have to disagree about the extra width not being usable. I make full use of my wide hammock and love it. I also intend to make mine longer since the Bliss is only a little over 9 ft long.

I have planned on using the flat felled seam since that's what I used on my tarp and it's proved to be strong and held up to the winds nicely plus it was fairly easy to do once I got the hang of it. But weight bearing is a different story and I would love to hear if there is a better seam.

Looking at my Bliss hammock, it doesn't look like they used a flat felled seam. I see a triple stitch from both sides. If I recall, the flat felled will have a hidden stitch on one side, so at best it would have had 2 visible on one side and 3 on the other? Doesn't mean they used a better stitch than the flat felled seam, I just know it's held up for 1.5 yrs now.

I figure the extra material will not really be stressed structurally. Put the edges together, fold over twice with enough width for 3 stitch lines, and go for it.

Since I'll be sharing the hammock with my lil lady the extra material on the sides will come into play.

I thought the flat felled seam would be the best as well, I'm glad somebody else shared that notion.

I already have 54' ripstop so I'll be giving that a go - then a try at the no zipper mosquito netting.

A flat felled is just like a jean seam right?


put the two pieces together, then fold them once and do it again?
