I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Backpack. Not a tube with straps either. Sewn in compression straps, padded shoulder straps, side pockets, lined, integral pack cover. Hydration bladder compatible. Its what I am figuring out the process on now.
An emergency of my own making...is still an emergency.

bugnet if you don't have one. but if you really want to hone your skills the backpack is the way to go.

A peak bag! Or two - one for each end.

Here is a thread about my favorite peak bag ideas by GvilleDave

    G4 backpack

When I started out sewing this past spring I needed a lightweight backpack and couldn't afford the lightweight ones so I taught myself to sew and did the g4, then some sacks, now I'm working on a tarp and hammock, then the quilt.... so I say the backpack if you don't have a lightweight one.
