Has anyone ever added loops very close to the gathered ends in addition to whoopie slings so that you could by-pass the whoopie slings in close quarters? This would shorten your absolute minimum tree distance considerably.
Would you put loops right in the tails of the whoopie slings? If so, what knot? Alpine butterflies (with an extra wrap)? Double overhand? Or would a knot weaken the whoopie slings too much when you were using them? (I'm talking 7/64ths amsteel here)
Or would you add a separate pair of continuous loops to the ends with a lark's head? Say, lark's head continuous loops about 12" long so the loops would be quite short coming off the gathered ends--very little weight penalty.
