Hanging in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness

Over the past weekend we went into Waptus Lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Only about 10 miles from the Salmon La Sac trailhead and or the Cayuse Horse Camp it’s an easy, albeit a rocky, ride through the river valley to the lake.

In the pic above you can see our humble abode for this trip. The better half again took the grand trunk before I could grab it. The tarp is a DIY job I made last week after being inspired by HF! It's 1.1 silnylon and measures 4 meters by 3 meters. I had planned on finishing the edges with grosgrain but ran out of thread and just rolled and sewed the edges to prevent fraying. Hope it holds.

You can click here for more details on the outing and see more pics.
Next up is a trip to the Goat Hole where we’ll do another overnight using the ultra light weight horse camping principles that we’re working on for an upcoming book.
BTW- the total weight on each horse, exclusive of saddle and rider, was 21 pounds, 13 if you don't count the 8 pounds of horse feed we carried for each beast.

Great tarp. Did you hijack a hot air baloon?

Nice trip and thanks for the pictures.

Man, I love the Pacific northwest. Good luck with your book and let us know when you're done. I'm sure some of us would like to give it a read.
Glad you two had a great time.

HA! Nope, although that may have been cheaper! I did enough stealth camping over 21 years in the Marine Corps, I like bright colors now!
