On the bow of the boat you put a bowline before bowing to queenie, but straighten your bow tie first!

Reminds me of some HF members who couldn't find grosgrain ribbon because the ladies at the fabric store acted like they couldn't understand what he was looking for.

Pronounced "GROW-grain."

Po-TAY-to, po-TAH-to; bo-lin, bow-line. Doesn't matter how you pronounce it, as long as you know how to tie and utilize it correctly. Problem solved.

Knowing the difference between "bowline" and "bow line" could be quite important!

It was originally a sailing term and spelled as two words, bow line. It was used to hold the edge of a sail to the bow of the ship and into the wind. It was probably pronounced "bow" originally.
